Pastel Palette

I was inspired by the Easter season to do a story on pastels, enjoy!

The following picture may burn your eyes! Brace yourself for... pastel circa 1987.

This is what comes to mind when I think Pastels. It's the horrid 1987 sea of ugly. I know at one point it was the "in thing" but so was over shag carpet you had to rake to clean, sometimes finding a surprise! 

Well readers....surprise! You can use pastels in a very successful way in the year 2011! Pastel is another way of saying soft and delicate. It is a pale form of a more vibrant color. Let's see some of the items we have at IBB Design Fine Furnishing that uses a Pastel Palette:

Light Up Your Life!!!

Lamps. Lamps. Lamps. You have floor lamps, table lamps, buffet lamps and torchieres are just the tip of the iceberg and within each category you have; traditional, contemporary, mid-century, modern, hollywood glam and the list can grow.

Well, which is the right lamp for you? Which lamp fits your space just right? The answer is that there are many lamps that look great in your space, you have to choose which one you like!

Enough about which lamp you need, let's find out what a lamp can do for your space.

Lamps can add drama! Many times when you float your sofa, this is when your sofa is not against wall, you can add a layer of dimension with a sofa table. On top of the sofa table you can add a pair of lamps. This draws your eye up into the space and gives your a spark of excitement.

Toned down white lamps can be a subtle sparkle in your room.  A White, off white, mirrored or natural lamp gives your space a light and airy feel. Perfect for your "spa retreat" to your bedroom!

Mirror Mirror on the Wall...

A personal belief of mine is that every room needs of touch of mirror! It can be represented in a piece of furniture, accessory or on the wall. Mirrors have the ability to transform a space. They are extremely diverse. Mirrors add color, texture, pattern, depth, dimension and a touch of glam to your space.

In smaller rooms, a mirror can trick your mind into believing your area is bigger than it actually is by bouncing light around. This leaves your room  expanded and feeling breathable!

This is NOT your Grandma's House!

If your grandma is anything like mine, when you walk through her doors your senses are instantly stimulated. The air is filled with the aroma of perfume and fresh baked cookies, you hear the tea pot singing as the water becomes ready, and your eyes see the 1970's wallpaper that has fallen out of favor, tired old matching over patterned sofa and chairs, and mustard colors Tupperware ...this must be grandma's house!


The stigma of grandma's house over time flowed over into this being what a "Traditional Home" consists of.... not anymore folks!
